HERBS 1984
Herbs 1984: Fred Faleauto, Jack Allen, Carl Perkins, Tama Lundon,
Morrie Watene, Willie Hona, Dilworth Karaka.

This site was published in December 2008. It is not endorsed by Herbs,
but is merely a project by a fan of the band frustrated by the lack of information about Herbs
available on the Internet.

The content was originally gleaned from that scant information already on the Web
and newspaper articles, but mostly from John Dix’s fabulous Stranded in Paradise:
New Zealand Rock and Roll, 1955 to the Modern Era
.

Since the site was uploaded, further information has been gratefully received from former
Herbs members Carl Perkins, who now performs with his family band House Of Shem
and whose family maintains the Herbs MySpace site, Gordon Joll, Kristen Hapi,
Walter Bianco, Leyton Greening, Lionel Nelson, founding members Toni Fonoti and
Spencer Fusimalohi and original manager Will ’Ilolahia.

The earliest pictures of the band were supplied by bass guitarists John Berkley and
Phil Toms, who is still recording and performing in Auckland with his band the Electric Car.
Rare mid-’90s photos were provided by percussionist at the time Juanito Muzzio, now on
the Gold Coast of Australia.

The official Herbs Bebo site is run by Tang Nepia, the wife of long-time
percussionist/vocalist Thom Nepia, and she offered encouragement and invaluable
assistance on the band’s later line-ups.

Thom Nepia, keyboardist Tama Lundon and one-time manager Hugh Lynn
contributed their memories via phone, but Herbs rangatira Dilworth Karaka preferred
not to impart his recollections of 30 years in the band until he could do so face to face.
We will get there one day.

Of course 2013 saw the establishment of the wonderful AudioCulture website
with further information and photographs of Herbs. Visit AudioCulture for their profile
of Herbs here.

Enjoy the site. Please feel free to contact me here.
